Teacher Q&A Sessions
We have begun discussions with 6th grade teachers at each of our three middle schools, all of whom will be implementing 6th grade 1:1 in the 2016-17 school year. Teachers will receive their devices soon (Jan/Feb 2016) prior to next year so that we can begin professional development and planning for students with devices next fall. Below is a collection of questions and answers from teachers (Additional Teacher FAQs are available on the Redefining Learning Website, under Frequently Asked Questions >> "Teachers (MS, 1:1)"):
- When will teachers receive devices?
- At the first training date/s: (signups coming...)
- February 9th - @ Fowler (4-6pm)
- February 10th - @ Twality (4-6pm)
- February 11th - @ Hazelbrook (4-6pm)
- How will we project the iPad on our projector?
- AirServer software will be provided for each 6th grade teacher. This software runs on your MacBook Air and allows an AirPlay connection from your ipad to your laptop.
- When will students receive devices?
- Students will receive their devices in Fall 2016
- What apps will be loaded on the iPads?
- Google Apps suite (Docs, Sheets, Classroom, etc.), QR code scanner, voice recorder, note taking app, binder app, interactive whiteboard app, Teacher/StudentVue, iBooks, iTunesU to begin.
- Will there be keyboards?
- Wired keyboards will be purchased for LA and SS classrooms
- What is the timeline of events for 2015-16 (teachers)?
- The timeline can be found here
- What are goals & measurement for the Middle School 1:1 Implementation
- The DRAFT goals can be found here.
- What security is in place to prevent students from downloading inappropriate apps or access inappropriate websites?
- We will be using a management system that restricts them from downloading apps that are not "approved." All student devices will be required to go through the TTSD Internet filter whether at school or off-campus (ie at home).
- How will students be trained on iPad use - including new students?
- We are developing an online course that all students will need to complete prior to receiving their iPads. It will be created in a way that allows new students to take the course on their first day as well. (including multiple language support).
- Can we visit some TTSD 5th grade classrooms this Spring?
- Yes! All 5th grade students at TTSD have devices. We will be making arrangements for 6th grade teachers to visit 5th grade classrooms this Spring.
